Modi banned in Kedarnath! Why is devdham’s priest angry against the Prime Minister?

Prime Minister Modi plans to visit Kedarnath, the holy shrine of Hindus, on November 5. But the Prime Minister’s plan has come under unexpected hurdles. The Prime Minister’s Kedarnath Yatra has been opposed by the Kedarnath Priests’ Society. There is now a sensation over the disruption of the visit of the Prime Minister of the country by the priests himself. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is considered to be one of the top leaders of the Hindutva camp in the country. The priestof that Modi’s kedar philosophy has created a stir in the Hindutva camp as the society opposes it. But why this unexpected hurdle before Modi?

In fact the dispute between the BJP government in Uttarakhand and the priestly community of the state’s pramukh monasteries is the reason for this. The Sardham Devasthanam board was formed by the BJP government of Trivendra Singh Rawat in the state in 2020. Under this, the BJP government had taken over the control of Shardham i.e. Kedarnath, Gangotri, Jamunatri and Badrinath Temples. The state government also got control of 51 major temples in Uttarakhand.

The strong opposition to the formation of this Sardham Devasthanam Board started last year with the priests and panda community in the state. The priests demanded that the decision to set up devasthanam board be cancelled. The opposition that still persists. The opposition of the priests was so strong that the priests did not allow former chief minister Rawat to visit Kedarnath.

The Uttarakhand BJP president was also strongly opposed in Kedarnath. Meanwhile Pushkar Singh Dhami tried to clear the objections of the priests after he became the chief minister of Uttarakhand. He had constituted a committee on the objections of priests and pandas and promised to come up with a solution by October 30. But by October 30 the priestcommunity decided to oppose Prime Minister Modi’s Kedarnath philosophy as the chief minister did not take any decision. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Dhami was surprised when the priestly community in Kedarnath opposed Prime Minister Modi’s philosophy. He immediately went to Kedarnath today and held discussions with the priesthood.

At the end of the discussion Dhami said that his discussions with the priests have been positive. Priests are eager to welcome the Prime Minister. But contrary to the chief minister’s statement the priests are yet to say directly that they are not opposed to the prime minister’s philosophy. So, it would not be surprising that Modi faced opposition from the priestly community during kedarnath darshan on November 5. It is learnt that even after the chief minister’s understanding, some priests are still in a state of confusion for their opposition to the Prime Minister. The priests reiterated that opposition will continue till the Devasthanam board is cancelled. It may be recalled that this is the fourth time during his prime ministership that Modi has visited Kedarnath.
