17 villages destroyed 3787 hectares of forest land in 20 year
Six forests in Nagaon, which did not light up twenty years ago, are now deserted. Encroachers started in dense forests twenty years ago. The encroachers’ hammer swelled so severely that within twenty years. 3747 hectares of forest land has been destroyed. The encroachers are now seen living in villages by running forest divisions in six forests. These people have been living in 17 villages on forest land.
It is a mystery that the forest department has not taken any action in the case of encroachers living in villages in six forests under kampur regional forest officer’s office under Nagaon Forest Division officer’s office. It is learnt that 125 in Lutumari 2215 hectares in Barpani, 32 hectares in Madhavpara, 110 hectares in Dhanshiri, 139 hectares in Jukuta, 44 hectares in palkhana are being occupied by encroachers.
Once upon a time, there was no sunshine in these forests due to the tree forests on about 6600 hectares of land.
At present there is no tree forest in 3787 hectares of land. Also, the forest department has no existence in this large quantity of forest land. More than 55 per cent of the actual forest land is inhabited by encroachers living in villages. In addition to coming, 30 per cent of the forest land under the forest department is not forest edifice. Forest swells are going on day and night in the forest stake dispossession of forest department but no action has been observed against the encroachers.
