President Ram Nath Kovind will give away the National Sports Awards 2021 on Saturday at a specially organised function at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The National Sports Awards which are given to recognize and reward excellence in sports was announced on November 2 by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
The awards will given under categories like Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, Arjuna Award for outstanding performance in Sports and Games, Dronacharya Award for outstanding coaches in Sports and Games, Dhyan Chand Award for Lifetime achievement in Sports and Games, Rashtriya Khel ProtsahanPuruskar and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy.
Let’s look at the awards one by one.
Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award: This award is given to those sportsperson who delivers outstanding and spectular performance in the sports filed over a period of four years.
Arjuna Award for outstanding performance in Sports and Games: This award is given to those sportsperson who not only delivers good perfromance but also has qualities of leadership, sportsmanship and a sense of discipline over a period of four years.
Dronacharya Award for outstanding coaches in Sports and Games: As name suggests, this award is given to coaches for helping and enabling sportsperson to give their best in International events.
Dhyan Chand Award for Lifetime achievement in Sports and Games: This award is given honour those sportsperson who continue to contribute promotion of sports even after their retirement.
Rashtriya Khel ProtsahanPuruskar: This award is given to corporate entities (both in private and public sector), sports control boards, NGOs including sports bodies at theState and National level who have played a visible role in the area of sports promotion and development.
