AIIB-Smart Meter Project Contract Dispersal by CM

Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma on Monday held a function at the 1st State Guest House at Koinadhara in Guwahati to provide better power to the people through the expansion of the state’s power sector. And distributed formal contracts for smart meter projects. The AIIB funded project, which has been undertaken at a cost of Rs. 3284.04 crore with a view to expanding and reducing losses of power distribution system in Assam’s power sector, is the power sector of the state. Various steps like strengthening of connectivity and distribution network, management of improved voltage, development of high quality and low quality ratio of network will be taken. While prepaid smart metering project will be installed in urban areas of Assam through prepaid smart metering project on dbfoot basis undertaken at a project cost of Rs 566.33 crore.

The project will reduce the commercial losses of the power sector and enable power consumers to monitor their power consumption and cost through smart phones. The project will also help APDCL in monitoring the power accounts of the loss-making areas. In his address on the occasion, Chief Minister Dr Sharma said that the state government has laid great emphasis on the power sector in the state. The project is aimed at ensuring that the people can get better quality power services. Emphasizing on the completion of these two projects within the stipulated time, Chief Minister Dr. Sharma asked all concerned to take it up as a challenge. He also said that he will review the progress of project implementation regularly. Jishnu Baruah, Chief Secretary of the State and Chairman of all the three institutions of the Department of Power, Several top officials including Chief Secretary of Power Niraj Verma and APDCL Managing Director Rakesh Kumar were present.
