Andhra Pradesh floods, 33 killed so far, more than 100 trains disrupted
The monsoon in the Bay of Bengal has worsened the situation in Andhra Pradesh. Heavy rain continued in different parts of the state. So far 33 people have lost their lives in rain related incidents. On the other hand, 12 people are reported missing. Rail traffic has also been affected in the state. South Central Railway said more than 100 express trains have been stopped and 29 trains have been diverted due to damage to railway tracks at Padugupadu near Nallor.
The water level of rivers in the state has increased due to continuous rains. On the other hand, floods have been created in Chittoor, Kadappa, Anantapur and Nallur. Many vehicles and passengers have been stranded due to the flood of Penna river in Andhra Pradesh. Traffic on major highways has been stopped. Bus services have also been affected apart from railways.
According to official data, 20 people have died in Kadappa, 7 in Anantapur, 4 in Chittoor and 2 in SPS Nallor due to floods and rains. The bodies of unidentified persons have been recovered near Somsheela reservoir in Nellore. On the other hand, 12 people are reported missing in Kadappa district. On the other hand, hundreds of bighas of land agriculture have been destroyed due to this situation. Many houses in the village area have been destroyed.
