A claim that people from Mizoram were constructing a road in southern Assam’s Hailakandi district caused a new escalation between Assam and Mizoram on Tuesday.
The road was being constructed near Haticherra village inside the reserve forest for the last few days, according to official.
Initially, the road construction on Assam side from the Forest Service. We then informed our Mizoram counterparts, who immediately stopped the work. In the last two days, there has been no activity, official claimed.
According to the sources, the three JCBs were spotted at the location on Wednesday. Hailakandi DC and SP will visit to the site with the relevant officials and conduct a spot verification.

A Mizoram Police personnel was detained for the involvement in the incident.

The border between Assam’s Barak Valley districts of Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi and three Mizoram areas: Aizawl, Kolasib, and Mamit is 164.6 kilometres long.
