Heavy rains in Andhra Pradesh: 44 killed, 16 missing

Four districts of Andhra Pradesh have reportedly been killed and 16 missing due to heavy rains over the past one week. In a press release released by the Andhra Pradesh government, four districts of the state are Kadapa, A total of 1990 villages in Chittoor, Anantapur and Nelod have been hit by rain. Incessant rains that started in the first week of this month have caused extensive damage to the roads and traffic in the districts. Such heavy rains started from November 16-17. The state government has said that the state has never had rainfall before.

10 people were killed when a Road Transport Corporation bus was swept away from The Naduluru Bridge due to floods caused by heavy rains. The SDRF forces managed to rescue the other people in the bus. The bodies of 10 others were recovered on the banks of the River Sivalayam. The state government has announced a subsidy of Rs. 1.80 lakh per family for reconstruction of the damaged houses in the state in this rain-related disaster. Also, the state government has also announced a one-time relief of Rs. 95,000 to the families whose livestock died in the floods.

Earlier, the state government has entrusted the commissioner of supply and retired officers with the responsibility of supervising the distribution of essential commodities to the affected people of four flood affected districts with 25 kg of rice, 1 litre of oil, 1 kg of onion and 1 kg of potatoes.
