Jorhat police recover 24 dogs tied up to send them for sale to Nagaland

Several local dogs have lost their lives due to the promptness of Jorhat police. Jorhat police have recovered 24 stolen dogs illegally tied up from Chaguri area in a major case of local dog trafficking. A man named Doku Dolly has been arrested in this connection. Three others along with Dolly have been detained and interrogated. Meanwhile, a local NGO in Jorhat sheltered the dogs and gave them food items. Police reports said the stolen dogs were suspected to have been smuggled to Nagaland in line with the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Jorhat police managed to rescue these 24 dogs from assam-Nagaland border area on December 15. Local organisation JBF took action to treat the dogs immediately. The JBF team reached Jorhat Pulibar police station from Guwahati on December 16 and started immediate first aid to the rescued dogs.

The team then safely brought all the rescued dogs to the JBF Integrated Research Centre for Animal located at Sonapur in Guwahati. The veterinary team in collaboration with JBF takes care to cure the dogs by providing them the necessary treatment. The 24 rescued dogs were reportedly extremely injured and ill. The JBF team is determined to cure these 24 dogs by providing them all the necessary treatment. It may be recalled that the demand for dog meat in Nagaland increased drasticly on Christmas Eve.
