Transport department detains 40 drunk drivers in guwahati in three days

Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sharma has been urging all parties not to carry out accidents by drinking and driving in the name of Adarsh on December 31. It has also been urging everyone to come down on hand with the aim of creating an accident free Assam in parallel. At the same time the Chief Minister has directed the Transport and Police Department to take legal action against drivers who drink alcohol as well as drive at uncontrolled speed. It is only after the chief minister’s order that police and transport departments across the state have been conducting raids against law violators including drinking day and night, driving at uncontrolled speed with the aim of creating an accident free Assam. Sources in the transport department said that till date in the last three days alone, 40 drivers who were drunk and driving drunk in the office of Kamrup City District Transport Officer (Enforcement) have been able to arrest them with breath analysis by conducting night time raids in Guwahati city alone.

The drunk drivers were later handed over to the local police station at night. District Transport Officer (Enforcement) Himanshu Kumar Das who led the operation said that the driving licences of drivers have been suspended for three months recently. Similarly the district transport officer said that the raids against the drivers who disobeyed the law will continue day and night till December 31 as directed by the chief minister.
