Two trampled to death by herd of elephants in Assam’s Numaligarh
Two persons were trampled to death and six others injured by a herd of wild elephants near Numaligarh in Golaghat district of Assam.
The incident took place in the wee hours of Sunday in a paddy filed where the persons were sleeping in a makeshift shelter.
Locals said the elephant herd had come into the area in search of food from the forest area. On their way, the herd of wild elephants had come across the shelter and attacked the people sleeping inside it.
The deceased persons were identified as Akbar Ali and Muhammad Islamuddin. While Ali died on the spot, Islammuddin died at Jorhat Medical College Hospital during his treatment.
On the same night, another incident involving elephants was reported from Nagaon. An elderly woman was injured in an attack by a wild elephant in the Uriagoan area of Nonoi. The woman claimed that the elephant broke the walls of her room and attacked her with its trunk.
