Tension prevails on Bengal border: 12 policemen injured in cow smuggling trader’s encounter

Police clash with cow smugglers on Bangladesh border. The supplier became aggressive on the police who tried to rescue cows brought to the border areas for smuggling. The incident took place on Sunday in Uchalpukhuri gram panchayat area of Mekhaliganj police station in Kochvihar in West Bengal.

Police said a large number of cows were gathered in the border area to be sent to Bangladesh for smuggling. Police raided Negaribari area of Usalpukhuri gram panchayat after receiving information at night. During the rescue, a group of miscreants including women first started attacking police personnel with stones and later bamboo, lathi. In this incident, 12 policemen of Mekhaliganj police station were injured. The injured policemen were later treated at Mekhaliganj hospital and 34 cows were rescued from the spot.

cochbihar superintendent of police Sumit Kumar has already assured a proper probe and deployed a large number of police in the area. Police have already arrested six persons accused, including four women, for carrying out the attack. Now the question is- how was this large number of cows supplied to the spot? Is there a frequent smuggling into Bangladesh?
