A major fire broke out at Algar Burmanpara in Asamer, bordering Kharuabandha police station in South Shalmara-Mankasar district, causing extensive damage to nearly Rs 10 lakh including three houses of two families.

It may be recalled that a fire broke out in the kitchen around 1pm after his family, Adhikar Chandra Varman of Varmanpara village, fell asleep after eating dinner. As a result a total of two houses including his pak house as well as the house were completely destroyed. Similarly, a house of his brother Pran Mahon Varman was completely destroyed.

The fire caused huge damage to three houses, about Rs 1 lakh in cash, a motorcycle, bicycle, about 40 quintals of paddy, gold-silver jewellery worth about Rs 50,000, NRC, land documents and about Rs 10 lakh. As soon as the fire broke out, the fire brigade came and managed to douse the flames with the help of the people. What led to the fire is still a mystery.
