Stop politicizing eviction drive issue: Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Mancha

Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Mancha (BJSM) on Thursday reiterated that some sections of people including political leaders were trying to politicize the issue of eviction drive order given by the Gauhati High Court against non tribal encroachers in tribal belts and blocks in Assam and said that the district administration must follow the provision of law of land and court’s order. The Mancha asked the parties and individuals who were trying to confuse people by complicating the issue.

The president of the BJSM Janaklal Basumatary said it was a wrong concept that the non tribal encroachers in tribal belts and blocks were liable to be evicted in BTC only. He said, “The High Court’s order is covering all the tribal belts and blocks across Assam including BTC.” The BTC has to take action against encroachers within their jurisdiction in the four districts while the State government has to take action in the rest of the State as per direction of the High Court as per land law of Assam, he said adding that this was not eviction of non tribals from BTC but eviction against illegal encroachers of tribal belts and blocks in entire Assam including BTC.

Basumatary said the eviction order had been being politicized as if the non tribal only in BTC is going to be evicted which is not true. He said the identified illegal encroachers were to be evicted forthwith as per provision of chapter- X of Assam Land and Land Revenue Regulation Act, 1886 as amended in 1947 from the tribal belts and blocks in all Assam including BTC.
