Kolkata Teen Drives Car 80 Meters On Railway Tracks, Blames GPS Direction
A major tragedy was averted on Saturday nights at Ballygunge Railway Station, when three teenagers, who were returning to their home after a birthday night, drove around 80 meters on the railway tracks. Following this, the movement of the train was stopped between 10:45 PM and 11:45 on Saturday. According to media reports, all three youths, who were 18 to 19-year-old were trying to drop off one of their friends in Kasba when the GPS-enabled apps directed them to the wrong route landing them on railway tracks.
Subsequently, the Ballygunge GRP has lodged an FIR against the driver, and on the other hand, the RPF has lodged a separate FIR against the car’s passenger. Later, three of them were granted bail. The reports further claimed that two of them had misbehaved with the forces when they were trying to remove the car from the tracks. Notably, a beer can was recovered from inside the seized car which probably indicates that the whole scenario might have taken place under the influence of alcohol. However, a medical test confirmed that they were not drunk.
Meanwhile, cops also refused to buy their arguments that due to faulty GPS app the incident took place. Cops further claimed that the study of Google map, which they were using, has not supported their claim. According to GRP and RPF, Railways employees and passengers first noticed the car on the track. The driver was an 18-year-old who lives at a condo Prince Anwar Shah Road, while an 18-year-old friend resides at another Condo in Anandapur off EM bypass. The other friend, aged 19 years, is a resident of sector II in Salt Lake.
