Assam: Water supply projects in Guwahati under investigation

The Assam government has initiated an investigation into the charges and complaints surrounding a water supply project in Guwahati that was funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The investigation will focus on the water supply project’s suspected irregularities and wrongdoing.

“The government of Assam has appointed extra chief secretary to the government of Assam, Paban Kumar Borthakur, as enquiry officer to investigate into the alleged charge of corruption in JICA supported Guwahati Water Supply Project,” the government stated in an official statement.

The officer has been given a week to write a thorough report on the investigation. “Within seven days of the appointment, he must produce a report on the situation,” it said. It should be noted that some JICA-funded water supply projects in Guwahati have yet to be finished, despite the fact that their deadlines have passed. Several allegations of suspected corruption in such projects have surfaced in recent days.
