Assam returns to pre-pandemic life, bizmen & students elated
Assam’s return to pre-pandemic life without any kind of Covid-19 restrictions from Tuesday has ushered in hope among all sections of people in the state.
Traders and small-scale businessmen, who were severely hit by the pandemic and are still struggling to revive their trade, have found a new lease of life with the lifting of curbs. Tipu Hazarika, owner of a restaurant, said, “The last two years were a nightmare for us. I cannot explain how we have survived. The government’s decision to lift the restrictions will now give an opportunity to save the dying businesses.”
Kailash Kabra, the chairperson of Kamrup Chambers of Commerce, said, “With the improvement in Covid scenario, the government has lifted the restrictions in a bid to revive the state’s economy. That is a welcoming and a much-needed decision. Now, the responsibility is on the public. Everyone must get vaccinated and must wear face masks and use sanitisers. Hygiene is the only option to stay away from any kind of infection.”
Students are also excited as offline classes have been allowed. Monikangkana Medhi, a student of TC Govt Girls’ HS and MP School, said she was very happy as she went to school after almost two years. “We attended online classes but were not satisfied. Physical classes are more convenient for students to understand the subjects than online classes,” she added.
