DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta inaugurates new building of Kokrajhar Police Station

The Director General of Police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta on Tuesday visited Kokrajhar and formally inaugurated the new building of Kokrajhar Police Station built under Mission of Overall Improvement of Thana for Responsive Image (MOITRI) scheme in the presence of EM of BTR Ranjit Basumatary and other high police officers.

In his speech, Mahanta said the government of Assam, as part of its upgrade mission of police in the State had built 75 new buildings of Police Station in the 1st phase and 59 in the second phase. He said 219 police stations across Assam would be upgraded with modern facilities.

Mahanta said Kokrajhar Police Station was established in 1923 at a plot of 7 bighas of land in the heart of Kokrajhar town. The plot of land was purchased at Rs. 21,000 that time and the PS received four cases on the day of the beginning of the operation of PS. He thanked the past and incumbent officials of Kokrajhar PS and VDP for giving great services to the people of the district since its establishment. He also said the construction of a new building under MOITRI was to create a good work environment and to enhance to police-public relationship.

Talking to media persons, Mahanta said there had been rise of supply of contraband drugs like ganja, cocaine, heroin and other substances via Srirampur inter-state gate. He said the contraband drugs were flowing from Myanmar to Manipur and passes through Srirampur in Kokrajhar district. He said they were taking strict vigilance to crack down on the syndicate currently available in the Srirampur inter-state gate.
