Assam CM: Will surpass Punjab in terms of GDP in 3 years?
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on March 15 that the state is keeping its Debt-to-GDP ratio at 23% and that its economy is strong.
Sarma made this statement to the Assam Legislative Assembly audience while speaking on a variety of topics.
“The RBI has asked us to take a loan amount of Rs 22,000 crore but we have said that we can manage it with Rs 19,000 crore,” said CM Sarma.
The Assam Chief Minister also stated that Assam’s GDP will exceed Punjab’s in three years under the leadership of the BJP.
“In Indian ranking, in terms of GDP Assam stands at 17 per cent and Punjab is at 16 per cent and we have overtaken Chattisgarh and Chandigarh and now we are chasing Punjab.”
According to CM Sarma, Assam will surpass Punjab in three years when it reaches Rs 5,5,000 crore from Rs 6,80,000 crore in Punjab.
Assam’s GDP is expected to reach Rs 4,93,000 crore, and the state administration expects it to reach Rs 5,5,000 crore in 2022–2023.
According to Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, the state’s per capita growth for the fiscal year 2021–2022 is 18.26%, while India’s per capita growth is 14.24%.
The Assam Chief Minister said that while per capita revenue in India increased by 14% in the previous year, it increased by 17% in Assam.
The chief minister also argued that while Assam had previously relied on a fund from the federal government to pay state government wages, it is now self-sufficient and able to pay salaries on the first of every month for the entire year.
Speaking about dearness allowances, the CM said that while the federal government’s stipend matches that of the state government, West Bengal is still falling short.
