Guwahati: The Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles Rifles recovered and seized 60 boxes of illegal of foreign-origin cigarettes from the Champhai district of Mizoram.
The operation was carried out by a combined team of Assam Rifles and Customs department based on specific information.
The seized consignment of foreign-origin cigarettes has been estimated to be worth Rs 90 lakhs in the markets.
”The seized consignment was handed over to the customs department, Champhai on March 14, 2023, for further legal proceedings,” Assam Rifles said in an official statement on March 15.
It needs to be mentioned that ongoing smuggling of illegal items is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram.
