Guwahati: Assam’s finance minister Ajanta Neog stated on Thursday that the state budget for the fiscal year 2023–24 will be centred on the general welfare of the populace.
The finance minister told reporters that this would be her third budget before presenting it at the current session of the Assam Legislative Assembly today.
Ajanta Neog said, “This will be the third budget that I will be presenting. This year the budget will focus on the overall welfare of the people of the state.”
The finance minister described the areas that this year’s budget gave extra weight to. She said that the fight against poverty and the education sector had received special attention.
“This year, the budget will emphasize on self-employment. We have given special focus on revamping the education sector. Also, eradication of poverty in Assam will be a major focus point for this budget,” she said.
The finance minister further said, “There has been an attempt to find a solution to the problem of unemployment. We have also accorded focus on the economic development of Assam.”
Speaking further, Ajanta Neog mentioned that attention has been paid on the socio-economic aspects. “We have focused more on those living below the poverty line, while women empowerment will also be on the agenda of this budget,” she added.
As per the information received, the House will start its sessions today with Question Hour. Following that, finance minister Ajanta Neog will introduce the House version of the Indian Partnership Amendment Bill.
The finance minister will then present the budget for 2023–2024 after that. According to reports, the budget presentation is scheduled for today about 10:30 am.
Ajanta Neog had earlier stated that the budget this year will address socioeconomic state issues and would bring some good news for women.
