Barshashree Buragohain Acquitted By Golaghat Court Of All Wrongdoing

Guwahati: Barshashree Buragohain, an undergraduate student, was acquitted on Thursday by the district and sessions court in Assam’s Golaghat of all wrongdoing in connection with the UAPA case brought against her.

Barshashree became the centre of attention following her detention for a social media post that was believed to be against the country. She was therefore charged with violating the strict Illegal Actiities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

She had apparently spent the previous two months in a jail in Golaghat after being detained for more than a year. Barshashree Buragohain was arrested on May 18, 2022 for posting a poem in favour of the outlawed rebel group United Liberation Front of Assam-Independent (ULFA-I).

Barshashree is a second-semester science undergraduate student in DCB College in Golaghat.

Barshashree Buragohain has been ordered to appear before the district and sessions court in Golaghat earlier on February 28. The court has scheduled the case’s next hearing for March 16.

After Barshashree Buragohain was detained in Golaghat’s Uriamghat and charged under the strict UAPA for her post titled “Akou Korim Rashtra Droh,” outrage broke out (will again rebel against the nation).

Barshashree Buragohain was granted bail by the Gauhati High Court on July 21, 2022, with a number of conditions, according to her attorney.

Barshashree Buragohain’s attorney, Atul Dihingia claimed that the high court attached three conditions to its decision to give her bail. He claimed that Barshashree would have to participate with the investigation and be present anytime the investigating officer wanted her.

Dihingia informed her that she was forbidden from repeating the same crime, as well as from disclosing any information about the case to anyone.

Barshashree Buragohain was permitted by a judge to take her degree exam, which was held on July 16. She had taken the examination in a highly secure environment.
