Guwahati: Manipur government on Thursday served two school principals with a show-cause notice for failing to give over 96 students their High School Leaving Certificate exam admission cards.
As many as 96 students from 19 different educational institutions, including 10 government schools, were allegedly denied the opportunity to sit for the HSLC Examination in 2023 as a result of the school authorities’ alleged incompetence during the Manipur form-filling process.
The HSLC Examination 2023, conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BOSEM) begins on Thursday (March 16).
The Democratic Students’ Association of Manipur (DESAM) on March 15 urged the state administration to take into account letting these 96 students take the exam, citing worries over the possible effects on their careers.
M Somorjit Meitei, secretary general of DESAM, disclosed to the media at the organization’s headquarters in Imphal that, according to the findings of an investigation carried out by the DESAM team, BOSEM denied students access to the examination.
He argued that some of the school administrators who were in charge of filling out the forms were reported missing with the fee amount, while other were absent due to illness, in accordance with the findings of the DESAM inquiry.
The two principals have been asked by the government to answer to the show cause notice no later than March 24.
