PM Modi-Hasina to Jointly Inaugurate India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline

Guwahati: The India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline will be officially opened on Saturday via video conference between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina.

It was reportedly built at an estimated cost of Rs 377 crore and is the first cross-border electricity pipeline between Bangladesh and India. According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Indian government provided grant assistance to help build the Bangladesh portion of the pipeline, which cost about Rs 285 crore.

On Sunday, the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline will be officially opened by Prime Minister Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart.

According to the announcement, the Pipeline can move 1 million metric tonnes of high-speed diesel annually (MMTPA) (HSD). At the beginning, it will provide high-speed diesel to seven areas in northern Bangladesh.

According to the statement, the operation of the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline will establish a reliable, affordable, sustainable, and environmentally friendly method of transporting HSD from India to Bangladesh and will further strengthen cooperation in energy security between the two nations.

India and Bangladesh signed seven Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) on Tuesday in New Delhi to further strengthen ties between the two nations.

The Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), which were signed following legation-level discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his visiting Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina, concern water sharing, railroads, space, science, and the judiciary.

PM Modi said that the trade between the two countries is rapidly increasing. He said, “We have decided to extend cooperation in the IT, space and nuclear sectors.”

According to Prime Minister Modi, the agreements signed by the two nations will help southern Assam in India and the Sylhet region of Bangladesh.
