Guwahati: As many as four people were taken into custody on charges of smuggling gold in Morigaon district of Assam and fake gold items were confiscated from their possession.
Based on specific inputs of a possible smuggling bid, a squad of Jagiroad Police carried out an operation in the district.
During the operation, four suspects was caught by the police.
Upon searching, several fake gold items were recovered from their possession.
According to information provided by officials, those detained were identified as Abu Taher, Faizul Islam, Rekibuddin Ali, and Jahidul Islam.
Officials also recovered six mobile phones from the four suspects along with the fake gold items.
Moreover, they were also detained for interrogation in order to gather further information since police believe they are connected to a bigger network of people smuggling phoney gold, said officials.
