Amritpal Singh likely to have 7 more assistants flown from Punjab to Assam

Guwahati: Amritpal Singh, a radical Sikh preacher, is anticipated to soon bring seven more of his close associates to Dibrugarh in Assam from Punjab.

Four alleged associates of the missing radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh were taken to Dibrugarh on Sunday amid heavy security. Daljeet Singh Kalsi, Bhagwant Singh, Gurmeet Singh, and Pradhanmantri Bajeka were the aides’ names.

The Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Dibrugarh met them at the Mohanbari Airport. At the moment, all four are being held at the Dibrugarh Central Prison. Superintendent of Police Tejbir Singh Hundal, an SP-rank member of the Punjab Police, commanded the team that transported the four people who had been arrested to Assam.

Speaking on the matter yesterday, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Earlier we had sent prisoners from Assam to Bihar, and this is police-to-police cooperation. I have nothing to say on this. The prisoners are brought here for security purposes as well. Punjab police might have thought they should be kept in Assam for a few days and accordingly sent them.”

A month ago, Amritpal Singh, the leader of “Waris De Punjab,” and his supporters burst into a police station brandishing weapons in order to demand the release of one of his aides. In the altercation, six police officers suffered injuries. After the incident, the Punjab administration received a lot of criticism for the state’s law and order condition.

The fugitive Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh, however, was allegedly detained by the Punjab Police at Shahkot Police Station, according to Waris de Punjab’s legal counsel.

The Punjab government has prolonged the suspension of mobile internet services until Monday noon to avoid any disruptions and preserve public order in the state. All dongle services offered on mobile networks, except from voice conversations and banking, as well as SMS services in Punjab would continue to be suspended.
