IPL 2023: Players Who Will Miss Out

Guwahati: Several prominent cricketers are expected to skip the annual cricket spectacle due to the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The curtain-raiser for the 16th IPL season will feature Gujarat Titans vs. Chennai Super Kings, the defending champions.

The two biggest names who won’t be present during this year’s IPL are Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant. In addition, Will Jacks of Royal Challengers Bangalore has been ruled out of the IPL due to a muscle injury he sustained during England’s recent triumph over Bangladesh in their second ODI at Mirpur, meaning Shreyas Iyer and Will Jacks are also likely to miss out on this year’s edition.

Jasprit Bumrah, a renowned Indian pacer who has been absent from the game for some time, will not participate in the IPL since he is still healing from a persistent back problem. Nevertheless, the Delhi Capitals will not have their captain Rishabh Pant in the IPL as he is still recovering from severe injuries, he incurred in a serious automobile accident on December 31, 2022. According to sources, Shreyas Iyer would probably also miss the first half of the competition due to a back problem.

He was recently disqualified from the ODI series against Australia at home after being unable to bat in the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Ahmedabad’s second innings.

In addition, Jhye Richardson of the Mumbai Indians team is also probably going to miss the IPL this year due to recent hamstring surgery. Jonny Bairstow, an English batsman, will also not be participating in the IPL due to surgery he received after suffering injuries in a freak golf accident in September 2022. The Englishman suffered several fibula fractures, and it is unknown at this time whether he will be able to represent Punjab Kings.

Prasidh Krishna, a pace bowler with the Rajasthan Royals, was also unable to play in the IPL because of a spinal stress fracture. He will need surgery, which also makes it highly unlikely that he will play in the October–November 2023 ODI World Cup in India. Kyle Jamieson of the Chennai Super Kings may also miss some time due to a back stress fracture.
