PM Modi Pays Tribute To Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev & Rajguru On Shahid Diwas

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi honoured Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru on Shahid Diwas on Thursday. He thought back on their “unparalleled” sacrifice during the British Raj-era campaign for India’s independence.

Taking to Twitter, the PM wrote, “India will always remember the sacrifice of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru. These are greats who made an unparalleled contribution to our freedom struggle.” He also shared a video alongside it.

It should be noted that March 23 is one of numerous days marked in the nation as Martyr’s Day or Shahid Diwas to honour those who gave their lives in the ultimate sacrifice during India’s war for independence. The deaths of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, and Shivaram Rajguru all occurred on this day in history.

Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev received death sentences and were given the order to be hanged on March 24, 1931 for their involvement in the Lahore conspiracy case. The three were executed on March 23, 1931, in the Lahore jail after the timetable was advanced by 11 hours.

Meanwhile, tributes on this day have arrived from all around the nation. Individuals are recalling their contributions to the struggle for India’s independence, together with political leaders.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also took to Twitter to pay his respects. Sharing an image, he wrote, “With their indomitable spirit & desire for freedom, the valiant trio of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev & Rajguru galvanised youth of Bharat to rise up against colonial British Raj. On their punyatithi, commemorated as #ShaheedDiwas, I pay my homage to the freedom heroes.”

Elsewhere, Congress supremo Mallikarjun Kharge shared a quote of the trio, while remembering them. He wrote in Hindu, “They are concerned about what is the new style every day, We have this hobby to see what is the end of oppression. The thoughts of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev will always remain immortal. Salute to our great revolutionaries who sacrificed their lives for the motherland. #ShaheedDiwas.”
