Guwahati: The sleuths from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, continued their campaign against public servants who solicit bribes on Friday by arrested another Lat Mandal.
The arrested Lat Mandal has been identified as Naba Choudhury. He was assigned to the Sarupeta Revenue Circle circle officer’s office in the Barpeta district.
Sources claim that Choudhury was arrested as the complainant offered him a bribe of Rs 3,000. The members of the anti-corruption team caught him off guard and arrested him in a Bhawanipur restaurant.
Meanwhile, taking to Twitter, IPS Surendra Kumar informed, “Today, a team of @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped red handed and arrested Sh Naba Kr. Choudhury, Mandal, of Sarupeta Revenue Circle, Dist. Barpeta, after he accepted demanded bribe from the complainant in a restaurant for processing of partition of his land.”
Notably, the Assam Police has intensified efforts to apprehend public servants who solicit bribes. In this regard, the Director General of Police (DGP), GP Singh, has issued a warning to all staff members, stating that they will face severe consequences if they are discovered receiving bribes in exchange for performing tasks.
The Assam Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption Cell has made six toll-free numbers available for the people in this regard.
