Assam CM: People with ration cards to get free medical benefits upto Rs 5 lakh

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on March 26 that ration card-holding households would receive free medical care worth Rs 5 lakh.

CM Sarma made this announcement while at Rangia, where he also lay the cornerstones for many infrastructure projects totaling Rs 545.19 crore.

”Families, who hold ration cards, will now get free medical treatment of upto Rs 5 lakh annually, under Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Scheme and Mukhya Mantri Ayushman Bharat Scheme,” Sarma said while addressing the public.

He added that this year, ration cards will be issued to those who do not currently have them so that recipients can take advantage of the National Food Security Act’s (NFSA) free rice and pulses provisions.

CM Sarma stated that the state government will launch the Mukhya Mantri Awaas Yojana this year under which each beneficiary from a low socioeconomic background will receive one house in response to complaints from the public that they had not received houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana.
