Guwahati: The Election Commission of India has dispatched a team to Assam to meet with various stakeholders before the delineation of constituencies in the state.
The full bench of the Election Commission, led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, plans to meet with political parties, notable individuals, civil society organisations, social service providers, and state administration officials, including District Election Officers and Deputy Commissioners during its three-day tour of the state.
The Commission indicated that it wants all stakeholders to participate in the endeavour and offer intelligent ideas in order to complete the task on time and collect data regarding the ongoing delimitation process.
The Assam government decided to abolish four districts and merge them with other districts just one day before the Election Commission’s order banning administrative reforms took effect. This decision was made during a cabinet meeting.
The purpose of the Election Commission’s visit is to make sure that the delimitation process is carried out fairly and effectively. The Commission has emphasised the value of involving all interested parties in the process in order to acquire the data and insights required.
The delimitation process is anticipated to be finished well before the Assam assembly elections, which are slated for 2026.
The team from the Election Commission will spend three days in Assam meeting and conversing with various stakeholders in order to obtain information and insights firsthand. The visit is anticipated to offer insightful information and contribute to a transparent and fair delimitation process.
