Guwahati: An extensive blast close to the Afghan Foreign Ministry in the city centre of Kabul wounded 12 people and claimed at least two lives on Monday.
Several patients from the blast have been treated at a surgical facility run by an NGO in the heart of Kabul that specialises in caring for war victims.
“We received some patients,” said Stefano Sozza of Italian NGO Emergency.
According to a tweet from the Organization, the incident that occurred close to the foreign ministry damaged at least one youngster.
Afghanistan-based Tolo News also tweeted, “A blast happened on Foreign Ministry’s road near the Daudzai Trade Center in downtown Kabul this afternoon, eyewitnesses said, describing it as a heavy explosion.”
Officials from the Taliban have not officially addressed the tragedy, and no faction has assumed responsibility.
The incident occurred during lunchtime, a time of day when the city is particularly busy due to early dismissals from government offices during the Islamic month of Ramzan.
Since the beginning of the year, Afghanistan has had a lot of explosions. The Kabul Ministry of Foreign Affairs was the site of an explosion in January that claimed the lives of 5 civilians and injured a number of others.
This month, the capital city saw a number of explosions, one of which occurred close to the military airport in Kabul. A Chinese-owned hotel located in the centre of Kabul was also attacked.
