Guwahati: 70 Kg Cannabis Consignment Seized In 3rd Major Bust
Guwahati: In yet another major haul, a cannabis consignment weighing over 70 kilograms has been seized by Guwahati Police on Monday.
Moreover, officials also detained two persons in connection with the seizure.
Based on specific inputs, Guwahati Police conducted a search operation at the Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in the Betkuchi area of Guwahati.
During the operation, cannabis weighed around 77 kilograms has been seized by the officials.
The estimated worth of the entire cannabis seizure is around Rs 7 lakhs.
Officials further informed that the cannabis consignment had been brought into the country illegally from Tripura in a freight truck with its contents hidden underneath the seats. The Guwahati Police detained the truck’s driver and co-pilot to interrogate them regarding smuggling allegations.
The two residents of Tripura who were arrested by the police during the operation in Guwahati were identified as Babul Biswas and Haradhan Hrishi Das.
The operation was carried out under the lead of Garchuk Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Satendra Singh Hazari. The truck that was used to sneak the shipment in was taken into custody. It had registration numbers TR 01 AU 1894.
On being questioned by reporters, one of the accused, Babul Biswas said, “We brought the cannabis from Agartala and they were meant to be delivered here in Guwahati. We had packed the consignment below our seats.”
“We were not told where exactly to deliver the consignment. Our masters are behind this smuggling nexus. We only follow their orders,” added the detained Biswas.
It should be mentioned that the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Guwahati busted two significant attempts to smuggle cannabis on consecutive days at the Guwahati Railway Station.
