Authorities Remove the Wall of the Guwahati Cemetery Without Notice

Guwahati: A public cemetery’s wall was destroyed, creating a tense situation in the Betkuchi area of Guwahati, reports emerged on Tuesday.

Reports claim that the authorities destroyed the cemetery’s wall while the locals were away.

The locals claimed that the authorities failed to give them any advance notice of the eviction drive and went ahead with it despite their concerns.

They said the authorities did not have any proper evidence to support their sudden decision to conduct the eviction drive.

Meanwhile, the circle officer claimed that the land on which they built the wall was allotted to two satras.

The officer said the land was allotted to Bengena Ati satra and North Kamalabari satra.

He added that the wall was constructed by the cemetery committee while a court hearing regarding the land was taking place.
