Guwahati: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday issued summonses to Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray and his son Aditya Thackeray in a defamation lawsuit brought by MP and head of the Eknath Shinde faction Rahul Ramesh Shewale.
Sanjay Raut was also served with a summons in the case by the court.
According to the defamation lawsuit, Sanjay Raut and Thackeray are accused of saying that the Eknath Shinde group paid Rs 2000 crores to purchase the Shiv Sena insignia.
The Delhi High Court Bench of Justice Prateek Jalan heard the defamation case brought by Rahul Shewale against Sanjay Raut, Uddhav Thackeray, and Aditya Thackeray.
After hearing arguments, the Court granted the plaintiff’s motion and sent summonses to Sanjay Raut, Uddhav Thackeray, and Aditya Thackeray, requiring them to respond to any pertinent inquiries. The defendants must submit responses to interim applications, as ordered by the court.
The plaintiff’s attorney asked the court to issue an injunction order to stop Raut and others from making any additional defamatory claims, but the court refused, saying that an order would only be issued after receiving the parties’ reply.
A hearing for temporary relief has been scheduled for April 17.
In addition, the bench ordered Google, Twitter, Sanjay Raut, Uddhav Thackray, and Aditya Thackray to submit written declarations or responses to the lawsuit within 30 days.
Sanjay Raut was the subject of a complaint last month in Nashik for allegedly making offensive comments about Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during a news conference.
In a statement, Raut allegedly stated that transactions totaling Rs 2000 crore were done in order to obtain the Shiv Sena party name and its “bow and arrow” symbol.
