Assam Police Seizes Cannabis Worth Over Rs 1 Cr At Assam-Tripura Border
Guwahati: A massive-scale bust on Tuesday night along the border between Assam and Tripura resulted in the seizure of cannabis worth over Rs 1 crore.
According to the information received, the significant cannabis shipment was discovered last night in Churaibari near the Assam-Tripura border. During a routine search operation, Assam Police personnel stopped the container truck, and the shipment was discovered hidden within.
The massive cannabis consignment was recovered after the vehicle with the Nagaland registration numbers NL 0 AD 4522 was stopped and checked, according to officials. Officials estimated the weight of the confiscated cannabis at 1,275 kg.
According to reports, the truck was travelling from Tripura to Muzaffarpur in Bihar, where a shipment of marijuana was intended to be delivered. But as soon as the vehicle passed Tripura to enter the state, Assam Police stopped the smuggling attempt.
The truck was searched, and the cannabis shipment was discovered concealed there. According to officials, the value of the cannabis that was confiscated on the international drug markets was estimated to be over Rs 1,27,50,000.
Meanwhile, the authorities arrested the truck driver on suspicion of smuggling. He was identified as Amresh Rai, a resident of Muzaffarpur in Bihar. Officials were also informed that he was bringing in a significant shipment of cannabis from Agartala in Tripura.
