Youth Organisation in Mizoram Decides to close border with Myanmar Because 3 Mizo people were killed

Guwahati: The Mara ThyutliaPy (MTP), or Mara youth group, has decided to permanently shut the border between Mizoram and Myanmar in their sector on March 29. MTP has its headquarters in Chhuarlung, in the Siaha district of southern Mizoram.

This decision was taken soon after three Mizoramis, including two from the village of Chhuarlung, were killed in Myanmar.

The Young Lai Association (CYLA), the biggest civil society organisation in the nearby Lawngtlai district, also denounced the triple homicide in Myanmar and issued a warning that similar incidents shouldn’t happen again.

According to a release from the CYLA, the people of Mizoram recognised the suffering experienced by Myanmarese citizens as a result of the military junta’s persecution and ongoing civil conflict.

The statement warned that while a sizable number of outcasts from Myanmar were welcomed warmly and provided with food and other compassionate assistance by people in Mizoram, this type of occurrence can spark unfavourable consequences.

The CYLA further noted that incidents of this nature can lead to strained ties between Mizo’s family members in Mizoram and Myanmar.

The CYLA stated, “We are making arrangements to make more restrictions in looking after the refugees in looking after the refugees,” and warned that a recurrence of such an incident could result in an unwelcome atmosphere within the state that is hostile to the refugees.

In a statement, 48-year-old Biaksuii of Siaha district’s Baby Lallensung, the daughter of one of the victims, alleged that ZawOo and Aung Ling, both members of Mindat’s Chin Defense Force (CDF), were to blame for the deaths of the three people.

Tiallensung also claimed that there were around five people who were responsible for the murder, but he made no specific mention of any extra “killers” in his statement.
