Guwahati: A man’s kindness turned tragic when he was electrocuted to death while attempting to remove a powerful electric wire off a road on Wednesday night in Dibrugarh district of Assam.
The deceased has been identified as Pallav Sonowal, a resident of Chiringkhat village in Tengakhat area.
According to reports, Sonowal spotted a live electric line that was exposed on the road while he was walking towards his brother’s house nearby. He attempted to remove the wire from the road in good faith to prevent any mishaps, but electrocuted himself and suffered severe burn injuries.
After some time, some residents of the area noticed him convulsing on the ground and took him to the Mahatma Gandhi Modern Hospital for treatment; unfortunately, the doctors there tragically announced his death when they arrived.
The residents are currently experiencing a pall of gloom, with many of them accusing the electricity department of negligence. Moreover, they have urged that any official accountable for the incident face harsh punishment.
“We made lodged several complaints regarding the electric wires being very close to the ground but nothing has been done by the power department. There is absolutely no guarantee that incidents like this won’t occur again!” a local said.
“A lot of small children play in this area and god forbid nothing as such happens to them,” he added.
