Assam: Goroimari locals arrest three drug dealers & turn them over to Cops

Guwahati: Locals in Goroimari of Assam decided to take action against the drug issue in the area and caught three peddlers on Monday.

According to reports, the village security unit captured three persons for selling narcotics nearby and later turned them over to authorities with the assistance of several conscious youths.

The incident has come to light from Goroimari town in Assam’s Kamrup district.

As per the information received, one Rabiul Haque who is a resident of Laruajan village in the Goroimari subdivision was caught red-handed while he was trying to sell drugs and was handed a thrashing by the local village guard unit.

Moreover, it was revealed during his interrogation that two other people named as Rakib Hussain and Saddam Hussain, both residents of Mohimari in Goroimari were also participating in the drug trade.

On the basis of this, the locals of Goroimari also detained Rakib and Saddam Hussain. They were also found to be in possession of at least six drug containers, 11 empty containers and a syringe for injecting drugs.

Locals then informed Goroimari Police about the incident and when police arrived there and they seized the drugs and arrested the three accused.

Speaking about the matter, a local of the area said, “The menace of drugs has been prevalent in our area for some time now. Many of the youths have started taking drugs after which we decided to take matters into our hands.”

He said, “Earlier today, the village guard unit got information that Rabiul Haque, who is the main supplier, brings the drugs and hands them to Rakib Hussain. From there, the drugs are peddled across the town.”

“Many of the youths have been addicted to drugs and several of them have died recently after which we had to take the step to detain the three drugs suppliers and hand them over to Goroimari Police,” he further added.
