Former Delhi Dy CM Manish Sisodia’s judicial custody extended till April 17 in excise policy case

Guwahati: Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has had his judicial detention extended through April 17 per a decision made by a Delhi court on April 3.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sought an extension, arguing that the investigation was at a crucial stage.

The senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was hauled before the Rouse Avenue court in a case concerning alleged anomalies in the formulation and application of Delhi’s now-defunct excise policy.

Sisodia’s request for bail had already been rejected by the CBI, which claimed that granting it would jeopardise the probe because of the possibility of his influence and meddling. The investigating agency claims that Sisodia damaged phones in an effort to “delete the chat” in a separate plea for an extension of Sisodia’s judicial detention.

The Delhi spirits policy issue has drawn attention and included a number of people, including government officials and merchants. Investigations by the ED and CBI have revealed claims of corruption and wrongdoing in Delhi’s issuance of liquor permits.

Earlier on March 31, the Special Court denied Manish Sisodia’s request for bail, citing information gathered to date by the CBI that not only demonstrated the applicant’s active involvement in the alleged criminal conspiracy but also the prima facie commission of serious offences in violation of the PC Act.
