Huge Cache of Foreign Cigarettes & Betel Nuts Seized in Assam’s Cachar
Guwahati: In the ongoing war against illegal smuggling, a huge quantity of foreign cigarettes and betel nuts have been seized by the Cachar Police from Cachar district of Assam.
Legal authorities carried out the operation in Gumrah and Dholai village in Cachar to stop the unlawful trade of products.
Reports claim that during a raid in Digarkhal, the police seized as many as to 1600 international cigarettes.
The cigarettes that were being trafficked from Shillong to Meghalaya were seized before they could be spread further.
Moreover, one suspect was arrested in Gumrah in connection with the smuggling operation.
Police in Dholai also seized betel nuts during a separate raid. Authorities seized the illicit shipment of betel nuts that was being shipped from Mizoram to international nations. Two vehicles were checked and 2,520 kg of betel nuts were seized, however the drivers of the vehicles managed to escape.
Illegal smuggling is a serious problem in the region, and authorities have been working to combat the practice for some time. A significant triumph in the ongoing battle against illegal operations is the discovery of foreign cigarettes and betel nuts.
A local police spokeswoman stated about the operation and commended the authorities’ efforts, saying they were committed to upholding law and order in the area. Also, they advised the populace to be watchful and report any suspicious behaviour to the police.
