Assam: AJP Stages Protest against Toll Gate Tax Hike in Nagaon

Guwahati: Assam Jatiya Parishad organised a protest against the most recent increase in toll gate tax on Wednesday in Nagaon.

Workers from AJP protested the tax increase in the area of the Raha toll gate.

The toll gate tax increase that went into effect on April 1 of this year was opposed by the protestors.

Notably, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) planned to raise toll charges in Assam effective April 1 before the conclusion of the fiscal year 2022–23.

Seven toll gates including the Assam-operating Raha toll gate had their NHAI updated tariffs fixed.

The charge at the Raha Toll Gate in Khaigarh was set at Rs 115 rather than Rs 110 for automobiles, jeeps, vans and light motor vehicles during a single voyage. The toll for light trucks and other light goods vehicles has gone up from Rs 175 to Rs 185 on a single journey. The toll price for buses and two-axle trucks has gone up from Rs 370 to Rs 390.

A 15% increase in toll tax every year will have a big impact on the prices of both essential and non-essential goods in the state, as the government already hiked the toll tax by 15% last year, taking effect on April 1, 2022.
