Gauhati HC upholds customary laws, says Prez Murmu at Platinum Jubilee Celebration

Guwahati: President of India Droupadi Murmu hailed the court’s accomplishments and distinctive identity with eminent luminaries during the Gauhati High Court’s Platinum Jubilee Ceremony.

She stressed the value of ethnic variety, indigenous people for the hill areas, and traditional procedures for resolving problems in order to improve the feelings of the indigenous people.

“After its inception in 1948, Gauhati High Court’s jurisdiction included 7 states of NE region, and it served as the principal seat while other permanent seats comprised of Kohima, Aizawl, and Itanagar,” the President said. “Gauhati HC has played a vital role in upholding customary laws, which has helped in achieving social and economic justice.”

Moreover, President Murmu emphasised the need for justice that is inclusive of all people and open to them. “Many problems and hindrances in getting justice exist, with one of the primary reasons being the cost incurred. Efforts must be made for a free and fair system,” she said.

The President also exhorted young attorneys to develop technology solutions that will aid in providing justice for the underprivileged. “I request and urge all to provide technology access to the people in need of getting justice,” she said.

The President sent her best wishes to the state’s residents at the Platinum Jubilee Celebration, which also fell on Rongali Bihu.
