Guwahati: National People’s Party (NPP) leader James Sangma continues to serve as chairman of the Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) after losing the most recent Assembly elections.
Sangma who is the elder brother of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma was defeated by Rupa Marak of the Trinamool Congress in the elections for the Dadenggre seat.
Many MLAs from the ruling coalition have reportedly been nominated by the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) administration as chairs, co-chairmen, and advisers of numerous boards and corporations in the state.
On the other hand, the former Mylliem MLA Hamletson Dohling has also been appointed as the Chief Minister’s adviser with all amenities and benefits falling under Category “A+.”
It needs to be noted that James Sangma lost the most recent Assembly elections by 18 votes, with 63.91 percent of eligible voters casting ballots.
Out of Meghalaya’s 60 Assembly districts, 36 constituencies fall in Khasi, Jaintia Hills region while 24 are in Garo Hills region.
Over 21 lakh people cast ballots, of whom 10.99 lakh were female and 10.68 lakh were male.
Besides this, there were 369 other contenders which 36 of them were female.
