ULFA-I Militant Surrenders In Assam
Guwahati: In yet another big jolt for ULFA, a cadre of the banned militant outfit United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) has surrendered before the security forces in Tinsukia district of Assam.
The surrendered cadre has been identified as Modon Asom alias Mintu Moran.
According to reports, the militant surrendered himself during an operation conducted jointly by Tinsukia Police and Assam Rifles.
Moran is a native of Torani Village in Tinsukia and his father has been identified as Chepet Moran.
Security forces in Assam have asserted that they have stepped up their attempts to bring about normalcy in Upper Assam, where the ULFA-I is purportedly carrying out some of its nefarious actions.
The security forces said in an official statement that a “whole of government approach” is in place and being carried out to completely restore normalcy in the final few areas of Upper Assam.
It needs to be noted that the security forces in Upper Assam alone have apprehended 107 cadres/Over Ground Workers since 2022, recovered 60 weapons, secured the surrender of 22 cadres, and stopped the recruitment of 64 more.
The security forces’ claims come amidst allegations that a Pro-Khalistani group, Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), is extending support for the “Assam Independence Referendum” (AIR) proposed by ULFA-I.
