Sikkim: HSP Prez Bhaichung Bhutia stages protest over JAC attack incident, demands FIR

Guwahati: Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP) President Bhaichung Bhutia organised a sit-in protest on April 8 calling for the filing of a FIR on the JAC attack incident in Sikkim’s Singtam district.

Bhutia organised a protest at the Singtam police station and made the decision to remain there until the FIR was filed.

Earlier,Joint Action Committee (JAC) general secretary Keshav Sapkota was assaulted by unidentified criminals on April 8 in the early hours of a rally held in Sikkim’s Singtam district.

The rally by JAC was conducted over concerns on the expansion of the definition of the term ‘Sikkimese’ in the Finance Act, 2023.

Sapkota has been immediately rushed to the Singtam District Hospital.

The rally was cancelled after the assault.

Security officers including police forces have arrived at the rally site to handle the situation.

As per latest reports, Section 144 has been imposed in Singtam.

The gathering is being planned to call for the preservation of the historical and constitutional definition of Sikkimese during the special Assembly session scheduled for April 10.
