Guwahati: In a major drive against narcotic drugs, a huge quantity of Brown Sugar and cash has been seized by Guwahati Police from a residence in Hatigaon.
Based on a tip-off, city police conducted a raid on the house No. 57 in Laxminagar and 800 grams of brown sugar.
The estimated market value of the seized Brown Sugar is around Rs 80 lakh.
During the raid, the police also seized Rs 7.49 lakh in cash and a luxury vehicle.
The police think that a prominent drug lord was in charge of the operation and that the drugs were being brought into the city from other regions of the state. He was able to escape before the police could capture the smuggler.
The legal authorities claimed that the city’s drug trade had been severely damaged by the capture of such a large quantity of drugs.
Moreover, they stated that other arrests would probably be made in the upcoming days and that the police were seeking to locate and detain the smuggler.
The police have urged the public to come forward with any information in order to find the smuggler and prosecute him.
