Smuggling of exotic animals: Is NE becoming the next big hub?

Guwahati: In a massive cross border smuggling bid, the Assam Police recovered at least nine exotic wildlife species from the Assam-Mizoram border.

The recovered animals include seven spider monkeys and two black and white ruffled lemurs.

The exotic wildlife species were recovered by the Cachar Police.

Cachar police informed that the animals were recovered in big cages from Devipur area of Dhalai after animal traffickers threw them.

The police have also suspected that these animals were brought into Mizoram via Mizoram from Myanmar or Indonesia.

An investigation has been launched after a case was reported.

According to reports, the spider monkeys are generally found in Columbia, and lemurs have their origin in South America and Madagascar.
