Union HM Amit Shah to Arrive in Arunachal Pradesh Today

Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday will arrive into Arunachal Pradesh to begin a two-day visit to the state.

Amit Shah is expected to attend a number of events in the Arunachal Pradesh village of Kibithoo, which is close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

He will launch the “Vibrant Villages Programme” (VVP) which is sponsored by the government at Kibithoo.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu said, “To stress the Centre’s concern for the development of border areas, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Kibithu in Anjaw district on April 10 and 11 where he will be launching the VVP.”

The Home Minister will also launch initiatives to improve infrastructure at Likabali, Chapra (Bihar), Nooranad (Kerala), and Vishakapatnam (Andhra Pradesh). He will also hold discussions with senior members of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).

Amit Shah will land in Dibrugarh of Assam today and will directly leave for Arunachal Pradesh.

He will attend a BJP party event on Tuesday and lay the cornerstone for a regional BJP office during a two-day visit to Arunachal Pradesh.

Shah will be visiting the state for the first time; notably, China just changed the names of 11 locations there.

Five mountain peaks, two rivers, two land tracts, and two residential settlements in Arunachal Pradesh—which China claims to be South Tibet—were among the renamed locations.

China had already unilaterally changed the names of locations in the northeastern state of India in April 2017 and December 2021; thus, this was not the first time.

The country’s civil affairs ministry in a short statement said, “According to the relevant regulations of the State Council (China’s cabinet) on the management of geographical names, our ministry, together with relevant departments, has standardized some geographical names in southern Tibet.”

Although the names were altered, there was no immediate effect on the locations in the state.

Following the incident, India reacted to China’s renaming of Arunachal Pradesh’s locations.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, China has undertaken attempts like this before.

“We have seen such reports. This is not the first time China has made such an attempt. We reject this outright. Arunachal Pradesh is, has been, and will always be an integral and inalienable part of India. Attempts to assign invented names will not alter this reality.”
