Guwahati: At least seven business establishments were entirely gutted in a massive fire that broke out in Nalbari district of Assam on Monday night.
The massive fire broke out at a market area in Rampur of Mukalmua.
Locals alleged that the fire erupted from a hotel named ‘Bhaiti Cabin’.
Officials of the Rampur Market Managing Committee said that properties worth about Rs 3 crore were gutted in the devasted fire.
The fire completely destroyed 7 business establishments including a restaurant, pharmacies, a hardware shop, book stalls and stationary shops.
Upon receiving information, fire tenders and police officials immediately rushed to the spot.
It has been suspected that the fire was triggered by a shot-circuit of electricity.
Currently, the fire is under control as of now.
So far, no casualty has been reported.
Speaking about the incident, a local of Rampur said, “Around seven business establishments and shops were gutted in the massive fire. We suspect that the fire erupted due to a short circuit at a hotel named ‘Bhaiti Cabin’. It then spread to nearby shops gutting two pharmacies, a hardware shop, a book stall and a retail shop.”
“We then informed the police and the fire department about the incident. At least 6 fire tenders arrived shortly after this. They conducted rescue operations and managed to douse the fire after continuous efforts,” the local resident further said.
Moreover, the locals asked the authorities to create a fire brigade station there at the market area because the area is prone to fire occurrences frequent.
