Assam Govt Announces Rs 2 Lakh Ex-gratia for Kin of Deceased In Dikom Tragedy
Guwahati: The family members of those killed in the tragic road accident at Dikom in Dibrugarh have been offered financial help from the Assam government in the amount of Rs 2 lakhs each.
Assam’s Tea Tribes Welfare and Labour Minister Sanjoy Kishan arrived at Dikom on Tuesday on the directions of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to take stock of the situation there. The minister paid a visit to the homes of the three tea workers who perished in the accident.
It should be noted that three female tea employees were killed by a speeding car on Monday morning close to the Nahartali bypass.
Two of the women died immediately after the incident, and another succumbed to her injuries while being treated for them at a hospital.
The victims were identified as Mina Bediya, Rita Bediya and Sunita Bhatta, all daily wage workers.
However, following the incident, the situation at Dikom descended into chaos when the enraged populace blocked the route by torching a car.
The police also used blank fire in order to disperse the gathering. Security forces were deployed in large numbers to bring the situation under control.
However, there were no reported injuries during the protest.
